Our Start
Mélange was founded in 2024 by 23-year-old Sebastian Batchelor at Ormond College, University of Melbourne, while studying between Naarm/Melbourne and the University of Edinburgh. The platform launched to a sold-out Mélange and Satsuma Music and Art Festival in Naarm/Melbourne in May 2024.
Since then the team has expanded, a European presence solidified, projects across the music and art world born and completed, and a digital and physical following established.
Mélange is a Music & Tech start-up founded to help facilitate artists connecting across the globe through projects. In doing so, we aim to make it easier to meet people around you, connect, learn, transfer knowledge, upskill, and connect with businesses. Along the way, we've built real, tangible, long-term links between Australasia & Europe.
The Problem We Are Solving
It is increasingly difficult for creative match-making in a physical vs digital world.
Lack of information, digital barriers, crowding out are issues many feel are long-term issues that need addressing if we are to progress in the future. Building meaningful connections is sometimes tricky in the music, film, and art industries. Mélange exists to facilitate that exchange by building the projects ourselves.
Our Cities
Mélange operates across four cities on two continents — each chosen for their distinct creative energy and the communities already forming within them.
Our Events
Mélange started with a sold-out festival launch at the Gasometer (RIP) in May 2024, in partnership with Satsuma. On the bill: Moopie, Flavour, Dumbhead, Obi & Nnamdi, and Charlotte Rooney, alongside an art gallery curated by Resolved Play, in front of 300 friends, family, patrons, students and full-timers.
Since then we've grown to hosting music and art events across the world, in partnership with Sneaky Pete's, Otters Records, Pinata, Area 3000, Rubadub, People's Leisure Club, Music Room, Her Bar, Runner Up, Venue M.O.T, DAYS, Rab Outdoor, Soda Bar, Village Sound, Dr Morse and more.
We've hosted the likes of DJ Life, Sansibar, Moopie, JNETT, Raphy Wall, Birdsnake, Dumbhead, Flavour, Yowies, Ari Kiko, Niamhzk, TwinTwo, Tige, Noodle, Carmen Baia, HAPOL, Caucasian Opportunities, Mordi, Mp2playa, Obi & Nnamdi, Deep Honey, Cadet, Merle, Afrodisiac & Ricali, Roka, Miki, DJ Alan, Noneohone, Manoah Kenna, Raffa, Sharksss, SHEP, Guzepi (just to name our music acts), and many, many more, across our gigs, radio and panels.
Our Label
Mélange Records is our home for new, emerging, bold and playful music, built between Australia and Europe.
The label began in May 2024 with MR001, ‘Changing States’ by Mélanger Le Miel, followed by Sharksss’ ‘Room No.8’. Since then it has grown to eight releases across electronic, contemporary and classical music, run by label heads Gabriel Griffith and Mélanger Le Miel.
In September 2025 we released our first pressing, Mélange Vol. 1, a 12″ Various Artists compilation more than a year in the making and involving 30+ creatives, with early support from Four Tet, Haai and Palms Trax and a Mixmag premiere for Sharksss’ ‘Morning Star’. Distributed by Rubadub in Glasgow, it sold out on Bandcamp in Australia, with release parties in Naarm/Melbourne and at People's Leisure Club in Edinburgh.
Most recently, MR008 brought Glasgow duo Thomas + James’ Bodysonic EP to stores worldwide in June 2026, with remixes from Gabriel Griffith and Mélanger Le Miel. Available on our Bandcamp and at select record stores worldwide.
